Rita Emanuela Mayer

(May 21, 1930 – May 9, 2025)

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Rita E. Mayer on May 9, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on May 21, 1930, in Freising, Germany, Rita was the beloved daughter of Babette and Leonhard Stark.

In 1952, Rita married Merle T. Mayer (who predeceased her), and together they shared 37 wonderful years of marriage. A dedicated and loving mother, Rita was blessed with four sons and their spouses, eight grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Rita was known for her unwavering commitment to her community, spending countless hours volunteering at her church, feeding the homeless, gardening, and expressing her creativity through drawing. Her selflessness and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband Merle, parents, two brothers,  sister and grandson. She is survived by her sons Gerald (Linda) Mayer, Rick (Cindy) Mayer, Robert (Carla) Mayer, and Roger (Rose) Mayer.

A Mass will be held on May 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Pro-Cathedral of St. Peter Catholic Church in Richmond, VA.

Rita will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
