Holly Ann LeMay

Holly Ann LeMay, our beloved, fiercely loyal friend, and Punk Rock Goddess left this world on July 2, 2025, after courageously facing glioblastoma.

Born on September 17, 1968, in Decatur, Alabama, Holly was the daughter of Richard “Dick” LeMay and Shirley Carter LeMay. She was raised in Manassas, Virginia, and graduated from Osbourn Park High School in 1986.

Holly’s love of music and intellect were passionate and lifelong. Her legendary parties, magnetic personality, and unapologetic style made her unforgettable. She was best known for her role at the box office of the iconic 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C.—both at its original and the new location. She also worked at Tower Records. Wherever Holly was, she was surrounded by the sounds and people she loved. Holly especially adored Nick Cave and was rarely far from the music and the community that spoke to her soul.

Holly had an absolutely brilliant mind. She was an avid reader and was well versed on a variety of topics. A gifted artist, Holly expressed herself not only through visual art, but also through writing, personal style, and a deep connection to nature. She was a devoted cat and plant lover who could soothe the most feral feline and coax life out of any corner with a bit of soil, water, and sunlight. Her creativity, both wild and thoughtful, was reflected in everything she touched.

Holly was deeply rooted in the music community, forming lifelong friendships with people who shared her passion, irreverence, and fierce loyalty. Holly’s community of friends stretches across continents and music scenes, united by love, laughter, and rhythm.

Outspoken and fearless, Holly was passionate about mental health, women’s rights, and social justice. She spoke up boldly and consistently about the need to build a more equal and just society. She used her voice and her life to challenge silence, and always created a safe space for others.

Holly was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Beth LeMay Lide. She is survived by her feline children: Mr Peaches, Alice, Ghost, Spider, and her vast chosen family—friends from all over the world who will forever carry her bold spirit, wicked humor, and generous heart.

Holly’s memorial will be held Sunday, August 17, 2025 from 4pm-6pm at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St NW, Washington DC 20001.
