Susan Renee Maynard
Susan Renee Maynard, 55, of Prince George, VA, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, in the presence of family after a courageous battle with cancer that returned in 2025 after five years of remission.
Born on August 25, 1969, Susan spent her years growing up first in Orange County, VA, then in Huntington, WV, where she completed high school and graduated from Marshall University. Susan was passionate about her career as a paraprofessional at N.B. Clements Junior High School where she was employed by the Prince George County Public Schools.
Susan is survived by her mother, Janice Smith Tisdale, of Keswick, VA; her daughter, Laura Elizabeth (William) Sullivan, and precious grandchildren, Reed and Ruby, of Syracuse, NY; her faithful sister, Kara (John) Romano, and her beloved nieces and nephew, Samantha, Maria, Allison, Emily, Taylor, and Benjamin Romano, of Glen Allen, VA, who all helped care for her in her last months and days. Susan leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins that she was fond of and who dearly loved her and who will cherish the memories they made together. She will be greatly missed also by Seth Collison, a friend of over fifteen years who said, “She was like an angel in my life.”
Susan is being welcomed to her new home by her loving father, Thomas Bennie Tisdale, Jr., who died in January 2024, and by her paternal and maternal grandparents, Thomas B. and Garnett Tisdale, and Albert and Corine Smith, as well as many others who have passed on.
Susan will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, quick wit, love for her family, and her love for children. She raised a wonderful daughter and took special interest in seeing her nieces and nephew grow up. Her grandchildren were the delight of her eye! It must be said that she also loved her animals, Abby, Bodie, Kody, Kujo, Riley, JJ, and Panthor, and that as a hobby she collected Longaberger baskets, Boyds bears, and Fiesta kitchenware. We are all grateful for the time we were given to know and love Susan and for the memories that were made.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Staples Mill Road Baptist Church in Glen Allen, VA, led by her uncle, Roy S. Thomas, and Shay Osborne.
In lieu of flowers, Susan requested that donations be made toward K-12 school supplies, hygiene products, and food bank non perishables for children in need of extra help. Her heart was with these children, and she said “I want my children to start off the 2025-2026 year without those worries.” Donations can be sent to Prince George County Public Schools, Attn: Back to School Supplies, PO Box 400, Prince George, VA, 23874, with a notation “in memory of Susan Maynard.”
