Thomas Randolph Wells Jr

WELLS, Thomas Randolph Jr. transitioned to his heavenly home on February 5, 2026. Born in 1953 to Thomas and Henrietta Wells, “Randy”as he was known to many, grew up in Montrose Heights in Henrico County. He  excelled in basketball and other sports at Varina High School and was named in the 1970 edition of Who’s Who in American High School Athletics. Randy attended Virginia Tech where he graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture. It was during this time at Virginia Tech where he found his lifeline and loyal friends in the brotherhood of the Sig Ep Fraternity with bonds that lasted his entire life.

Randy found a very fulfilling career in architecture and then transitioned into the world of general contracting, becoming the Vice President of W.M. Jordan, Inc. of Newport News. Randy’s work led to many legacy projects such as retirement complexes, large scale government offices, corrections institutions and public schools. His contributions to the general contracting industry were recognized by not only those legacy projects, but by a multitude of business organizations who praised his work.

In 1983 Randy married the love of his life, Sue, and they had many grand adventures until she left us too soon in 1992. Randy never stopped loving her. In the wake of this loss, the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis robbed him of his athletic freedom of movement, but that did not stop him from enjoying life with friends and family. He restored a lovely home on White Point in Deltaville, VA and eventually built his masterpiece, the WAG House, in Gloucester, VA on the North River. The house saw countless family gatherings and multiple weekend celebrations with the Sig Ep brotherhood, always with many fish caught and crabs eaten with good drink and great people. It is these memories that we all hold dear. Randy never met a stranger and loved every dog (and one cat) that came into his midst.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Etta Wells, and the love of his life, Sue Bailey Wells. He is survived by this sisters, Carolyn Kuhn and Trudy Goodman (Doug Sr.), one niece and five nephews and their families who brought him great joy. He is also survived by his Sig Ep brotherhood whose love for Randy has never diminished.

The family will hold a graveside service on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Gardens (12609 Patterson Ave, Richmond, 23831) where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved, Sue. The family takes great solace that he is no longer in pain, has been reunited with Sue and dancing to “Celebration.”

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or Virginia Tech at give.vt.edu.
