Thomas Papin Gannett

Thomas Papin Gannett, 74, passed away peacefully February 14, 2026 in Richmond, Virginia.  Born in Saint Louis, Missouri the third son of John Robert and Ashley (nee Papin) Gannett, He is preceded in death by his parents and oldest brother, John Robert.   He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon (nee Easterby); his children, Robert (Erin), Katie (Scott Golay) and John; his beloved grandchildren Connor, Carter, Peyton, Addison, Reese, and Harper; his siblings George Gannett (Phia), Peter Gannett (Terry) and Noel Gannett (Phil); seven nieces and nephews and five great nephews and nieces.

 

After receiving his PhD in organic chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he worked for DuPont de Nemours in Wilmington Delaware for over 30 years as a research chemist.  He received many awards and is named on over 20 patents during his career.

He was an Eagle Scout and  served as Scout Master for Troop 660 from 1991-1993 guiding many boy scouts to their Eagle Scout awards including his two sons.  He earned the Unit Leader Award of Merit for his service to the troop and Boy Scouts of America.

A life long Episcopalian, he attended St. James Epsicopal Church Mill Creek in Delaware.  He was a Vestry member and choir member and member for over 30 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Pentwater, Michigan in July 2026.
