David Cameron Oakley
On May 23, 2026, David Cameron Oakley (Heavy) passed away peacefully at the age of 62, leaving behind a legacy of adventure, laughter, and deep family devotion. Born in Henrico, Virginia, on May 2, 1964, David grew up with a natural curiosity and a lifelong passion for history.
Whether he was exploring Civil War battlefields or breathing in the salt air of the Outer Banks, David possessed an insatiable wanderlust. He was a proud Henrico High School graduate who never stopped learning, always seeking out the stories and lessons of the past.
David was a man of diverse talents. For years, he poured his energy into construction, taking great pride in building things that last. Later, he transitioned into working as a pilot escort, a role that perfectly mirrored his protective nature as he guided travelers safely to their destinations.
Devoted above all else to his family, David has been reunited in rest with his brothers, Bobby and Jerry, and his sister, Emily. His legacy of love will be fiercely cherished by his daughters, Paula (Mike), Megan (Cody), Kristeen, and Lexi (Alissa). He is also survived by his eight adored grandchildren: Nathan, Collin, Autumn, Jeison, AnaLyssia, Lukas, Lauren, and Riley; his sisters, Debbie and Donna; and his former spouse, Millie.
To David, the perfect evening was spent surrounded by family, commanding the board during a competitive game of Risk. His sharp strategy and playful wit made these gatherings unforgettable.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at VCU Health for their exceptional care and comfort during David’s final days.
We celebrate a man who loved deeply and lived fully. A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date. To honor David’s generous spirit, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice in his memory.
