Marian G. Cummins (Bertka)

January 16, 1933 – July 24, 2026

Marian G. Cummins (Bertka), beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on July 24, 2026, at the age of 93.

Marian was a woman of remarkable strength, generosity, creativity, and love. She dedicated much of her professional life to serving children and families and retired as the former President and CEO of Children, Inc., leaving behind a lasting legacy of caring and service.

Those who knew Marian will remember her thoughtful and generous heart, as well as her remarkable artistic and creative talent. She had a special gift for making everything beautiful—from fashion and flowers to decorating and bringing events together. She also generously shared her talents and spirit of service within her Dogwood Terrace community.

Marian enjoyed reading, playing games, and surrounding herself with beautiful things. She had a particular fondness for giraffes, but most of all, she treasured her family and friends. Her warmth, creativity, generosity, and love touched the lives of many, and the memories she created with those she loved will be cherished for generations to come.

Marian is survived by her sister, Judy (Bertka) Reed and her husband, Bob; her daughter, Stephanie (Puse) Smalley and her husband, Steve; and her son, Christopher Cummins and Bertica. She leaves behind a beautiful family legacy that includes 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews! 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Cummins; her parents, John and Susan Bertka; her brothers, John Bertka, Ronnie Bertka, and Harold Bertka; her sister, Barbara Walker (Bertka); her son, Brian Carl Puse II; and Brian’s wife, Vivian.

Marian’s life was one of love, service, creativity, and devotion to the people around her. Her greatest legacy is the family she loved so deeply and the many lives she touched along the way. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Celebration of Life

A Celebration of Life honoring Marian will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at:

A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family.
