Jackson Lee Shaw

In the early morning of Saturday August 15, Jackson Lee Shaw, 87, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

Jack leaves behind his wife, Jacqueline Bowers Shaw, of 66 years and his two daughters Tammy and Ben Cross, and Theresa and Bob Laurent; five grandchildren: Kristin and Wade Hvizdak; Kimberly and Doug Lemley; Robbie and Leigha Laurent; Jillian Laurent; and Benjamin Cross; and nine great grandchildren: Molly, Taylor, Caleb, Trevor, Kaylie, Peyton, Greyson, Frances, and Waylen; and nephews and nieces: Brandon and Angie Shaw; David and TC Bowers; Debbie and Dave Jacobs; and Michelle Bowers.

Jack was a proud veteran, professional firefighter, and pastor. He loved making people laugh and bringing joy to others. He kept a bag of candy in his pocket just to give away and usually wore a silly hat to greet others wherever he went. In his later years, he loved to cut the grass on his John Deere riding mower. Jack loved God, his family, and his country.

Jack’s last days were spent at the Journey’s Way Palliative Care hospice center at Virginia Veteran’s Memorial Hospital. His family received accommodations and care at the Fisher House, a hospitality house for the family of hospitalized Veterans run by the Veterans Association.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Thrive Church in Portsmouth, Virginia. Visitation will begin at 2:30, Memorial service at 3:30, then followed by a time of fellowship. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fisher House or to the Thrive Church building fund. The service will be live streamed. (livestream link coming)
