Carey Eugene Brakefield

DEWITT – Born August 18, 1951 in Memphis, Tennessee to Robert and Ruby (Shipp) Brakefield, Carey Eugene Brakefield (73), known in life as Eugene, passed in his Dewitt, VA home in the early morning hours of April 17, 2025. 

Having been raised in Alabama and later starting his family in Florida, he settled in Virginia, making DeWitt his home, shared with long time companion, Lisa Cregger.  He loved fishing, riding his motorcycle, tinkering in his shop and spending time with his
family. His career was spent with Reynolds Metals and later Alcoa, as a factory machine operator.

He is survived by his children, Jody Carey, Melinda Bell and Timmy Brakefield, as well as seven grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
