Mavis D. Sullivan

Mrs. Mavis D. Sullivan, 88, a long-time resident of Chester, Virginia, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, May 9, 2025. Born in Greenville, North Carolina, on June 4, 1936. Mrs. Sullivan was preceded in death by her parents, David S. Dixon and Mildred S. Dixon; her great-granddaughter, Sarah L. Sullivan; her daughter, Judy S. Hesler; and her husband of 67 years, Needham A. Sullivan, Jr. 

 

Mrs. Sullivan was a committed and caring mother whose nurturing spirit extended to the entire community’s children. She was actively involved with the Bermuda Pentecostal Holiness Church, assisting in the nursery and teaching Sunday school. Subsequently, she was employed at Rivers Bend Children’s Center, where she was affectionately called “Nanny”.

 

Mrs. Mavis D. Sullivan is survived by her daughter, Marie Anderson (Michael); grandchildren, Craig Southard (Sarah), Elizabeth Sullivan (Christopher), Matthew Hesler, Jonathan Hesler, and Joseph Hesler; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Nicholas, Lucas, Abby, Hailey, and Alexander; brother, James Ray Dixon and sister Jackie Diane Shirley.  As well as many nephews, nieces, and friends. 

 
Mavis was deeply rooted in her faith and strongly committed to Christ. She exemplified the virtues of Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control throughout her life. Her presence had a significant and memorable impact on our lives. She was loved by many and will be truly missed.
