Sue Whitfield (née Northstein, formerly Oliver)

Henrico County, Virginia

Sue Whitfield, formerly known as Sue Oliver, and born Sue Northstein in Gloucester County, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service. She was widowed twice and preceded in death by both of her beloved husbands.

Sue shared over 60 years of marriage with her second husband, Henry Coleman Whitfield, and together they built a life filled with deep love and devotion. Their relationship was an example of commitment and care for those who knew them.

A talented and dedicated hairdresser, Sue operated her own hairdressing business for over 30 years. She had a gift for making others feel beautiful, and her salon was a place of friendship, comfort, and joy.

In the 1970s, Sue was actively involved in Child Evangelism, where she shared the message of Jesus Christ with young hearts. With her felt board in hand, she would joyfully tell Bible stories, offer snacks, and surround children with warmth and kindness. Through her gentle spirit and unwavering faith, Sue helped many children come to know and trust in Jesus Christ.

Sue loved her family unconditionally. She had a heart for children and a deep compassion for the poor, always finding ways to serve others with grace, generosity and a good meal. Her life was marked by kindness, warmth, and humility.

Above all, Sue was a woman of faith. Her relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was central to everything she did.  She shared His love freely with everyone she met, living as a true reflection of His grace and light.

Sue was preceded in death by her siblings Catherine Hudgins, John Northstein, and Arletta Smith.

Sue is survived by her children: Robert Oliver, Teresa Jones, John Whitfield, and Jason Whitfield.  She was a proud and loving grandmother to Jessica Oliver, Sophia Lindsay, and Angelia Whitfield.

A private family gathering celebrating her life will be held at a later date.

Sue will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were touched by her kindness, her faith, and her extraordinary love.
