Gerald (Jerry) Francis Clarke

Gerald (Jerry) Francis Clarke of Richmond, VA, passed away on September 23, 2024, at VCU Medical Center due to injuries sustained in a fall. Jerry served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the 1960s and later was a civilian employee of the U.S. National Guard. He then transitioned into the field of technology in education and made a significant impact during his 25 years at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

 

He was a cherished member of the VCU community and ultimately retired as the Distance Education Technology Director for the VCU Department of Nurse Anesthesia. He had a passion for supporting students and advancing education and found immense joy in the success of his students. The Gerald F. Clarke Endowment Fund was established in his honor to support the Department of Nurse Anesthesia. Furthermore, the “Gerald F. Clarke Control Room” in the new College of Health Professions building was named in his honor.

 

Jerry was a man of many interests, known for his love of classic cars, computers, historic homes, and the great outdoors. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially walking and playing with his beloved dogs. 

 

He is dearly missed by his family and friends for his wit, encouraging words and warm spirit. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched.
