Howard Carter Eberly III
Howard Carter Eberly lll, aged 82, died March 26, 2026. He is proceeded in death by his wife of 23 years Ann Balderson Eberly, a native of Howard County Maryland. He is survived by his son Sherwood Carter Eberly and a sister Anna Christine Eberly. A Richmond native Mr. Eberly was the son of Howard Eberly Jr. and Christine Elliott Eberly also of Richmond. He was a graduate of Varina High School and held a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Eberly was a member of Four Mile Creek Baptist Church and a veteran of the Virginia Army National Guard. A sportsman, Eberly wrote the book “Hey Dad, Let’s Go Fishing”, published by Youth Publishing of Baltimore. He was active in the Maryland Fly Anglers and served as secretary and member of the board of directors. After leaving military service, he was employed by W. R. Grace and Company of Baltimore, Maryland in marketing and new business development. He resigned to establish Custom Tackle in Pasadena, Maryland designing fly rods and operating a wholesale and retail sporting goods business. Custom tackle specialized in designing and building fishing tackle for sportsman with disabilities. He was a member of the Charcoal Club of Baltimore, Maryland, the oldest art appreciation society in the United States.
He and his family returned to Richmond in 1986, founded Eberly Marketing Services and worked as a manufacturing representative until his retirement. He was a member of the ASNE, American Society of Naval Engineers, and also served as an industry representative to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). He is the recipient of the 2022 Historic Preservation Award of Merit awarded by the Henrico County Division of Recreation and Parks.
Howard spoke Spanish German and Maori with varying degrees of fluency. He was the fourth generation living on the family farm in Varina, Virginia at the time of his death.
A service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on April 4, 2026, at Varina Episcopal Church, located at 2385 Mill Road, Henrico, VA 23231. A reception will follow at his farm, 3751 New Market Road, Henrico, VA 23231.
