Jesse “JB” Brunson

A Time to Be Born
Jesse “JB” Brunson entered into this world on January 2, 1951. He was born to the late James Brunson Sr. and the late Hanna Benjamin-Brunson. He was reared in Mayesville, South Carolina. He received his education in Mayesville public schools. He left school to work in the cotton fields to help support his family.

A Time to Live
Once Jesse grew older, he relocated to Fort Pierce, Florida, then to his final residence in Fulks Run, Virginia. Jesse was employed by George’s Food’s, where he worked hard for many years. While working there, he met his love, Kay Carr, whom he nicknamed “Kakey.” They were together for over thirty years, they were united in holy matrimony on September 15, 2000. To their union one child was born, Jesse Brunson Jr. (deceased).

Jesse enjoyed listening to all genres of music, but he especially enjoyed Marvin Gaye and Otis Redding. Jesse was a die-hard fan of The Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed Spanish food and spicy foods. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, and spending time with family. Jesse had a huge heart and a love for all people, especially children. Even his care team referred to him as a “favorite”.

Jesse accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He loved God more than anyone or anything. He faithfully attended Brethren MT. Grove Church in Fulks Run, Virginia.

A Time to Die
In the days leading up to Jesse’s passing, he was prayed for and anointed by Jerry Shiflet and the hospital Chaplain, and his great-great nephew O’Marion Dargan prayed and read scripture over the phone.

Jesse departed this earth on Monday, November 3, 2025 around 2:17 pm. He transitioned at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. His care team treated him exceptionally well.
