Kenneth Edwin Ferguson, Sr

Kenneth “Kenny” Edwin Ferguson, Sr., 89, of Henrico, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family. Kenny was born to his parents Elsie Clark Ferguson and Kehl Leroy Ferguson on September 26, 1936, in Hampton, Virginia. Kenny enjoyed his childhood years in Hampton and graduated from Hampton High School in 1955. Kenny frequently proclaimed his lifelong pride at being a “Hampton Crabber!”

After graduation, Kenny took a job at the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company (“C&P Telephone”), which later became part of Bell Atlantic and AT&T Communications, where he worked until his retirement in December 1989. Early in his career, Kenny also served with the Virginia National Guard, training for the U.S. Army Reserve Forces at Fort Bliss, Texas. While at C&P Telephone, Kenny started out as an installer, then became a cable maintenance technician, then a PBX installer, before finishing his career in management. During his time with C&P Telephone, Kenny earned the Theodore N. Vail Bronze Medal for Noteworthy Public Service, citing his courage, tenacity of purpose, and promptness of action, for his efforts to save an elderly man and his bedridden wife from a house fire in Newport News, Virginia. Kenny enjoyed his work and loved talking all things “telephone.” Kenny also enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, Joan, whether going to the beach, vacationing, or hanging out with their grandchildren. Kenny was an avid outdoorsman and looked forward to his Saturday morning fishing trips to the Diascund Creek Reservoir with his sons Kenny, Jr., and Mark. Kenny loved hunting and fishing with his family and his friends at the Laf-A-Lot Hunt Club in New Kent, Virginia, amassing quite a collection of hunting and fishing awards and memorabilia in the process.

Kenny was preceded in death by his father, Kehl Leroy Ferguson, his mother, Elsie Clark Ferguson, his brother, Jack Leroy Ferguson, and his sister-in-law, Carol Moell Marcella. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Joan Moell Ferguson; his son, Kenneth “Kenny” Edwin Ferguson, Jr. (Marlo) of Midlothian, Virginia and son Mark Kevin Ferguson (Diane) of Midlothian, Virginia; and grandchildren Brooke Dingus (Matt), Jacob Ferguson, Julia Wack, and Elizabeth Ferguson. Kenny also enjoyed a close friendship with and is survived by his brother-in-law, Mickey Marcella, and his brother-in-law, Benny Manning (Bonnie Moell Manning). Kenny is also survived by nephews Donnie Marcella (Crystal), Neil Marcella (Maura), Brian Manning, and Bruce Manning, and great-niece and great-nephews Josh Moore (Bethany), Michael Marcella, Hannah Marcella, Sam Marcella, and Breck Marcella.
