Mark Wayne Koolhaas

                                                   

Mark Wayne Koolhaas, 61 of Midlothian, Virginia, passed on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025. Born on

October 3rd, 1963, in Mahnomen, Minnesota, to Abram and Elsie (née Nootenboom) Koolhaas, he grew
up on the Navajo reservation in Shiprock, New Mexico.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, three children and eight grandchildren: daughter Amber Koolhaas
and her children, Romeo, Nevaeh, Dominic, and Royce; son Louis “Buddy” (Meredith) Spies II and their
children, Lily, Rosie, Louis “Trip,” and Levi; and son, Jacob Koolhaas. Mark also left behind three siblings:
sisters Glenda (Gregg) Paul, Carol (Randy) Loemker, and Susan Hack, along with sisters- and brother-inlaw

Elaine Rensing Unland, Edna Rensing, and Dennis (Pam) Rensing.  Mark was preceded in death by his parents,

Abram and Elsie Koolhaas and Brothers-in law Dale Rensing and Donald Unland.

Mark loved plinking and spending time with family at their weekend home in Green Bay, Virginia. As a
skilled builder, he owned his own roofing company for years in Richmond, where he restored the roofs of
many historical buildings. Most recently, he was a dedicated Warehouse Shop Manager at Cross Timbers
Roofing and a master metal craftsman.

Throughout his life, Mark used his expertise to serve others through volunteer work, including working on
mission trips to Kilmarnock, building a playground at Cross Pointe Church, repairing and replacing roofs
for those in need, and facilitating target shooting outings for the Wounded Warrior Project.

A celebration of life service will be held at CrossPointe Church of the Nazarene on October 3rd at 10:30

a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior project.
