Mary Clarke

Mary Helen “Sissy” Clarke (née Runion), 66, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, in Richmond, Virginia. Born on June 6, 1959, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, she lived a life filled with devotion to her family, faith, and the joy of giving.

Known affectionately as Sissy, Mom, and Memaw, Mary was a beloved presence in the lives of all who knew her. Her warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Whether through a thoughtful gift or her unwavering support at family events, she made it clear that her greatest joy came from being present for those she loved.

Mary is survived by her husband, Robbie K. Clarke; her children: Joseph Clarke and his wife Sara, April Long and her husband Adam, and Robert Clarke and his wife Alexis. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Austin, Peyton, Daniel, Zinnia, Nick, Declan, Remy, Dawsen, America, Alicen, and Watson. Her siblings—brother and twin Mike Runion and sisters Joy Pickles and Debbie Durie—also mourn her passing.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Mary and Larry Runion; and a grandchild, Joey Jr.; and her beloved dog Gizzy, whose memories remained close to her heart.

Mary’s life was marked by simple joys that brought deep meaning: working on puzzles with care and patience; doting on her beloved shih tzu Gracie; shopping for just the right gifts for her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and never missing an opportunity to attend their games, recitals, or school events. Her presence was a constant source of encouragement and pride.

A woman of steadfast faith, Mary attended church every Sunday without fail. In recent years she found renewed spiritual joy in a new congregation that deeply resonated with her heart at Bethel United Methodist Church.

Her legacy is one of love expressed through action—of showing up when it mattered most and making others feel seen and valued. She will be remembered not only for what she did but for how she made people feel: cherished.

May Mary Helen “Sissy” Clarke’s memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
