Lieutenant Colonel Ricky G. Adams, USAF (Ret.)
Lieutenant Colonel Ricky Gene Adams, United States Air Force (Retired) went home to be with the Lord on April 25, 2026, surrounded by his family. A devoted father, respected leader, and proud American, Ricky leaves behind a legacy defined by service, integrity, strength, and enduring love for his family.
Born on April 4, 1956, in Lucedale, Mississippi, Ricky was raised with strong values that guided him throughout his life. He graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, Mississippi, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern Mississippi and later earned a Master’s degree in Aviation Science from Emory Riddle Aeronautical University. He began his military career as an officer and pilot in the United States Air Force, embarking on what would become an extraordinary 40-years of service to his country through active duty Air Force and the Air Force Reserves. Prior to retirement, he served as Chief of Safety for the United States Air Force at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Over the course of his distinguished career, Ricky rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He earned the deep respect of his peers and those he led through his steady leadership, sound judgment, and unwavering dedication to his mission and his country. His service was marked by numerous honors and commendations, reflecting both his professional excellence and his selfless commitment.

Beyond his military accomplishments, Ricky was known for his determination, presence, and deep devotion to those he loved. He had a natural ability to form connections; with a sense of humor that was shared and warmly appreciated by those closest to him.
He is survived by his adored daughter, Kara Adams, with whom he shared an exceptionally close and loving bond; Kara’s mother and former wife, Kelli Adams; his sister, Sandy Yeon, and her children, Adam Goehle (Ashley), Joseph Yeon and Jonathan Yeon; his sister, Trish Smith Roberts, and her children, Ali Peragouy (Alex) and Lee Smith; his father and stepmother, Tom and Mary Thompson; and Kathleen Metzger. He is also survived by many cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, and fellow service members who will carry his memory forward.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Patterson; his brother, Tony Adams; and his maternal grandparents, John and Ethel Patterson.
A private service with full military honors is planned at Arlington National Cemetery.
Lieutenant Colonel Adams will be remembered for his distinguished service to his country, his unwavering love for his family, and the quiet but powerful impact he made on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the example he set.
