Robert Shannon Wilder

Robert Shannon Wilder, surrounded by loved ones, passed away on October 30, 2025. He was born on January 27, 1961, in Enterprise, Alabama. He graduated from James W. Robinson Secondary School and Luther College. 

 

Shannon enjoyed many things but especially hunting, baseball, and music. His love for baseball shined the brightest as a proud coach to his sons and as the President of Lane Babe Ruth Baseball over many years. His passion for both baseball and hunting will leave a legacy with his sons and now grandchildren. 

 

As an Army brat, Shannon moved many times as his father was assigned to new duty stations across the country. He learned to make friends quickly and always made the most of every new assignment. His fondest memories were forged at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, where his father coached his team and his abiding love of baseball began. 

 

Shannon’s life was made difficult with Retinitis Pigmentosa and later in life Early On-Set Alzheimer’s, but his strength, optimism and courage made him such a special person. Family and friends will remember Shannon for his gentle nature, detailed storytelling, and warm smile.

 

Shannon is preceded in death by his father Bruce Wilder; his mother Linda Costino; and his stepfather Mitch Costino. Shannon is survived by Laurel Wilder and their two sons; Cody Wilder and his wife, Erinn Wilder, and their children Fielding Wilder and Rhodes Wilder; his son Benjamin Wilder and his wife, Jenniffer Garcia-Wilder, and their daughter Camila Wilder; his brother Bruce Wilder Jr., and his wife Kirsten Wilder; his brother Mark Wilder, and his wife Christy Wilder; his stepmother Patricia Wilder; and many other beloved family members. 

 

A special thank you to the team at Hanover Manor Assisted Living for the comfort, care and love they provided Shannon during his final years. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Shannon’s life at a later time when all who loved him can be together.
