Shirley Bryant
BRYANT, Shirley Bartley, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 89 years of age. Shirley was born on March 21, 1937 in Buckingham County. She is preceded in death by her parents, Evan D. Bartley and Mabel E. Martin Bartley; her sisters, Audrey Worley, Ruth Jones, and Kathleen Herndon; her brother John Bartley; her ex-husbands, Samuel D. Glenn and Lawrence A. (Red) Bryant. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Maynard and husband Charles, grandson Charles Maynard Jr.; her longtime companion of over 30 years, Otho (Danny) Nunnally and daughter Diana, nieces Barbara Dunaway (Bruce), Rebecca Grant, Betty Olson, Sheila Monzingo, & Kathy Peaslee (Bob).
She worked at Krispy Kreme on Staples Mill Road for forty years, from 1976 until her retirement in 2016, where she became lovingly known as “the Donut Lady.” She was especially known for her famous rum cakes, her love of music and dancing, and her warm, welcoming spirit. She never knew a stranger. Anyone who crossed her path was adopted family and welcomed with love and hugs. She survived many traumas as a child and obstacles as an adult. Yet nothing ever stopped her from living life to the fullest or from striving to make those around her smile. Her greatest joy was making others feel loved, welcomed, and at home, and that is how she will be remembered by all who knew her. If you knew Shirley, you knew she was happiest with music playing, surrounded by family and friends.
Per Shirley’s wishes, there will be no formal service, but a remembrance get-together will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to ACG Hospice, acghospice.com, in her name.

I have known Shirley for over 50 years. She was a special lady. Always full of herself and fun to be around. Rest in peace, dear friend.
Shirley was an amazing woman. Proud to have her as my aunt. She loved to dance and have a good time. I am so glad we took her out twice in the last month for dinner, dancing and a chance to just spend time together. I will miss her. Heaven received an angel. Prayers and hugs to Sherry, Charles and little Charles.
I fondly new her as Aunt Shirley. I am so glad I got to know her. She and your Momma known to me as Momma Audrey could dance the night away in their festive outfits, you would have never known their age or how much they both gave us energy when we were tired or helped us dance the night away, with Teenie Chenault and the Country Rockers or Tony Jackson just to name a few. I will miss her Immensely!!!! Prayers go out to Sherry, Charles you Betty and as I called him Uncle Danny and the entire family. God speed Shirley I can still feel your hugs and hear your voice. Prayers and Hugs. All my love Donna
