Susan “Susie” Williams Fletcher
Susan, “Susie”, Williams Fletcher, departed this life into the arms of Jesus on June 23, 2026 at her residence at Brookdale Senior Living. Susie was born in Washington D.C. to Jean Biernom and Turner Williams on May 2, 1950. She grew up in Chesapeake Beach, MD under the loving care of her adoptive parents, Matthew and Mildred Burger, who pre-deceased her.
Immediately, following her high school graduation from Catonsville High School, Susie enrolled in Catonsville Community College where she obtained an Associate Arts Degree as a Legal Secretary and Business major. Susie loved watching Perry Mason as a small child and determined that she wanted to be like Della Street which helped to inform her focus in college. She fully embraced her calling as a Legal Secretary and worked for various law firms throughout her career, retiring from Daniel Law Office in Richmond, VA in 2018. Susie used her knowledge and skills to guide and help many people over the years in getting the legal support they needed.
The highlight of Susie’s life was becoming a mother to her beloved son Rexx Victor Knapp who pre-deceased her in 2018. For 30 years Susie was a devoted mother, and she loved nothing more than watching Rexx grow and thrive.
Susie was a compassionate and resourceful caregiver at heart. Her favorite thing about herself was that she truly loved to care for people. Animals knew Susie’s love and care as well, especially her beloved Joe and Dasher. Susie displayed her care for the community through her volunteer work with many organizations. The Richmond SPCA and CrossOver Healthcare Ministry were two organizations that benefited from Susie’s generous gift of service. She graduated from CrossOver’s Lay Health Promoter Program in 2010 and was always eager to share health knowledge and resources with anyone who would listen. Her car trunk was full of resource pamphlets, blankets, snacks, water, a blood pressure cuff and other medical supplies to assist whomever God might bring her way. Susie cared deeply for people, but she especially cared for those most vulnerable or marginalized.
Susie heart of service and love of people was deeply informed by her Christian faith. She was a beloved member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Richmond who became her family. She is remembered for her exuberant expression of worship, her laughter, entertaining stories, and kind, empathetic heart.
Susie’s life was not easy, but her tenacity and refusal to give up were an inspiration to many. Susie had three favorite sayings that she often quoted: “Seize the Day!”, “Do it Afraid!” and “Get Up, Dress Up and Show Up.” Susie knew that God would be there to help her through any difficulty and to carry her all the way home!
A time of remembering and celebrating Susie’s life will be held on August 8, 2026 at Christ Presbyterian Church, 2508 Dickens Rd., Richmond at 10:00 a.m.
