Thomas Kenneth Jenkins

Thomas Kenneth Jenkins left this life on April 6, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest O. Jenkins and Nellie Nowell Jenkins, and his wife, Cindy Davis. Tom is survived by his son, Scott Jenkins (Tiffany); step-daughters, Abbie Allin, Megan Minach, Christa Cullinane, and Ashley Laurie; grandchildren Teague Jenkins, Tori Jenkins, Olivia Jenkins, and Finn Jenkins; brother, Steve Jenkins; sister Jane Boone; loving companion, Susan Hinton Woody; and numerous family and friends.

Tom lived life to the fullest and rarely met a stranger. He loved Christmas and enjoyed decking his halls with his plethora of Christmas trees. You could often find him on Hatteras Island with a fishing pole in hand or toiling away in his shed building or fixing something with one of his many socket wrenches. As a young man in the John Marshall High School Corps of Cadets, Company C, Tom began his life of patriotism and service. He retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections after many years overseeing the license plate and other inmate manufacturing programs. In his retirement, Tom continued to serve the Richmond community by manning the Information Desk at Richmond International Airport.

One of Tom’s true loves in life was dance. He started taking ballroom lessons at Mariana’s School of Dance in the 1970s. Over the years, he returned to the dance floor again and again for fun and friendship. Tom didn’t always have the easiest time of things, but he took things in stride and never lost his positive outlook. He never hesitated to help out a friend or a neighbor in need. He will be greatly missed.
